ELIGIBILITY

Entries are open to male, amateur golfers, who are: 1) members of the Alabama Golf Association, and, 2) bona fide residents of the State of Alabama.

Maximum allowable handicap is 8.4 strokes under the USGA Men's Golf Handicap System. The AGA will be the final authority in determining whether or not a handicap that has been submitted qualifies as an "approved USGA handicap".

Entries are subject to rejection, or withdrawal, at any time at the discretion of the AGA.

FORMAT

The Championship will be conducted on a stroke play basis for 72 holes, 18 holes daily on June 5-8, 2008.

There will be 156 players at the Championship site to begin play. After 36 holes the field will be reduced to the low 66 scores and ties for the final 36 holes of play.

In the event of a tie for the Championship there will be a "multi-hole" play-off commencing immediately following play (the holes involved to be determined by the AGA) with the Champion being determined by the lowest total of those holes. If a tie, or ties, still exists, the Championship will then be decided by "Sudden Death" following the same sequence of holes. After the Champion has been determined, all other ties not yet settled, including those involving individuals participating in the play-off for the Championship, will be decided by matching scorecards of the final round in accordance with the USGA recommendations shown in Appendix I of the 2008-2009 Rules of Golf, How to Decide Ties, page 124(c), except that if the tie still exists following this procedure, scores for the first 9 holes shall be treated in the same way until a winner is produced. Any remaining ties will be decided by matching cards hole-by-hole, beginning at the 18th hole.

QUALIFYING

Non-exempt players will be required to qualify at one of five (5) sites provided by the Alabama Golf Association and as described below.

The format and stipulated round for qualifying will be 18 holes at stroke play. In the event of a tie for the last qualifying place, the tie will be settled by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation shown in Appendix I of the 2008-2009 Rules of Golf, How to Decide Ties, page 124(c), except that if the tie still exists, scores for the first 9 holes shall be treated in the same way until a winner is produced. Any remaining ties will be decided by matching scorecards hole-by-hole, beginning at the 18th hole.

The number of available places for the Championship from each site will be determined on a percentile basis according to the number of qualifiers at that particular site compared with the total number of qualifiers, that percentage then applied to the number of places remaining in the Championship field after exempt players.

Alternates from each site will be determined according to the above scorecard procedure and will be substituted for any player from that qualifying site who has to withdraw. In the event an "Exempt" player withdraws after qualifying, a player who has an "Exempt" status but is an alternate will be substituted. If there are no such players, then substitutions will be selected based on need from the qualifying list.

Each non-exempt entrant should compete in the qualifying event nearest his residence unless he has good reason to qualify elsewhere and such reason has been approved by the AGA.

Specify on the entry application if you plan to walk or ride during qualifying.

Players MUST call the Golf Shop at each qualifying site and obtain starting times for practice. Please be aware that there will be certain time periods during the days specified for practice that will be for member play only, so call early.

 For AHSAA Players ONLY!

A special qualifier has been established for high school players whose schools are members of the AHSAA and who, because of a rule restricting outside play during their golf season on school days, cannot attempt to qualify.  This qualifier will run concurrently with the first day of play at the AHSAA State Golf Championship at The Shoals, Muscle Shoals, Monday, May 12.  Should a player select this qualifier, and then his school does not make the state championship, or himself as an individual, it is his responsibility to call AGA and request a move to another qualifying site.

NOTE: Practice time days vary from site to site, so we recommend you call early and make arrangements. Also, some qualifying sites additionally may require spikeless shoes and players need to be prepared for that eventuality.

CONDITIONS

The AGA Tournament Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions and schedules herein. The decision of the AGA in any matter shall be final.
